Night and Day
Would Night and Day be happier if they switched places?
Night and Day is an in-progress 2D animated short film that I'm making for my final year of University.
Night and Day is all about the titular characters not linking their given time of day. They discover they can change places by "stepping through" one another, making the sunset/sunrise appear as their bodies overlap.

The night and day are separated into two different worlds. The worlds are right next to each other and move as the characters move through them. They glitch out and start to move faster as the characters touch.
Thumbnail animatic
The film is currently in the storyboarding phase of development. Before making the boards, I developed visuals from the script and made a rough thumbnail animatic. I find thumbnail animatics useful for getting quick visuals down and seeing how everything flows together.
Development
The initial walkthrough scene didn’t have enough impact, considering it’s the climax of the film. I want that moment to have more emotional weight. I used closer shots and camera moves to make the moment feel more important and impactful. I also gave both characters their own reactions to switching places. This slows down the pace of the scene and makes it more obvious that the characters are happy with the change.
